Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Visits Waseda University; Delivers Special Lecture for Students

On May 27, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was welcomed to Waseda University by President Kaoru Kamata, Vice President Katsuichi Uchida and other representatives, followed by a special lecture to a full house of 300 students, faculty and invited guests in Okuma Auditorium.

PM Hasina has a close relationship with Waseda, having received an honorary doctorate in 1997. On this, her second visit, she gave a speech titled “Education for the Empowerment of Youth”, touching on the friendly relations and similarities in the development history of the two countries, Bangladesh’s education policies and stressing the importance of education for young people.
Following her strong desire to exchange views with students, she answered their questions graciously. The lively event ended with a photo session on the stage with a group of Waseda student ambassadors.
