In the election held by Waseda University on June 12, current president Kaoru Kamata was reelected for a second term, from November 5, 2014, through November 4, 2018.

Comment from President Kamata

Although there were no opposing candidates this time, turnout was higher than expected, and the majority of the faculty, staff and alumni with voting rights cast their ballots in support of my candidacy. I sincerely appreciate everyone taking time from their busy schedules to vote in the election.

Since taking office in 2010, in the tradition of the reforms of my predecessors, I have focused on strengthening our financial base. At the same time, incorporating a wide range of opinions from within and outside the university, we have established the Waseda Vision 150 strategic plan, which aims to educate people for the global stage, to promote innovative research, and to strengthen the relationships with our alumni and surrounding community. All the undergraduate and graduate faculties and affiliated schools have combined their efforts towards achieving our goals.

This election demonstrates support for the progress we have made, and charges me with a mission to redouble efforts to reach the lofty goals of the Waseda Vision 150 plan. I feel a solemn duty to respond to everyone’s expectations, and commit my best efforts to progress for the University, while giving ample consideration to critical opinions.

I humbly ask for your continued support and cooperation.

Kaoru Kamata, President
Waseda University
