WIAS Event: “Interdisciplinary Workshop on Agency” (9/22)

WIAS Event: “Interdisciplinary Workshop on Agency” (9/22)

概要 / Overview

Agency is a research topic that spans across Psychology, Philosophy, and Economics. Psychologists are frequently interested how we perceive agency while Philosophers are concerned with compatibility between determinism and individual agency and what it fundamentally means to have agency. Economists increasingly care about whether an intrinsic value should be given to agency and self-determination in policy design. The workshop aims at bringing these perspectives together for interdisciplinary exchange of ideas.

講演者プロフィール

Kai STREILING (M.Sc., Sensorimotor Control and Learning Group, Centre for Cognitive Science, Technical University of Darmstadt)
Kai Streiling researches cognitive aspects of human and machine motor control and learning. He studies how multiple sensory inputs are integrated into representations of the environment, the body, and social interaction, how these integration processes relate to psychotic disorders, and how they can inform machine learning algorithms. His main project, in collaboration with the Translational Neuroimaging Lab at the University of Marburg, examines the sense of agency in schizophrenia spectrum disorder, combining behavioural and eye-tracking data from tracking tasks with optimal control and reinforcement learning models. He teaches seminars on cognitive science, action, and Python programming for cognitive science students.

Tony CHENG (Ph.D., Associate Professor, Waseda Institute for Advanced Study, Waseda University)
Tony Cheng works on perception and consciousness, and on the relation between the subjective and the objective. His topics include bodily awareness and touch, spatial representation, memory and imagination, and artificial intelligence and consciousness, approached by combining philosophy of mind with findings from cognitive neuroscience. He received his Ph.D. from University College London, and before joining WIAS he was at the Department of Philosophy of National Chengchi University in Taipei, where he directed the Center for Phenomenology. He is an Associate Editor of Cognitive Science: A Multidisciplinary Journal.
