“Reimagining Elderly Care: China-Japan Symposium on AI and Robotics for Home-and-Community-Based Integrated Care”(Sep. 9)
Abstract
As populations in both China and Japan continue to age rapidly, there is a pressing need to rethink how eldercare is conceptualized and delivered. This symposium brings together leading scholars and practitioners from diverse disciplines—including gerontology, geriatrics, social welfare, engineering, artificial intelligence and robotics, law, public policy, and sociology—from both countries to explore innovative and sustainable models of elderly care.
Focusing on the integration of AI and robotics into home- and community-based care, the symposium will address how technological advances can be leveraged to support aging-in-place and foster autonomy, dignity, and well-being among older adults. Through keynote lectures and interdisciplinary panel discussions, we aim to share knowledge, exchange cross-cultural experiences, and stimulate dialogue on how to build integrated care systems that are both person-centered and technologically empowered. By bridging perspectives from China and Japan, the symposium aspires to contribute to a future where elderly individuals can thrive within their communities through responsive and inclusive care solutions.
