WIAS Visiting Researcher Seminar: “Reframing Energy Literacy for a Time of Transition” by EllIS, Naoko and GLADWIN, Derek (10/23)
Abstract
Energy underpins modern life, and yet it remains difficult to understand, discuss, and evaluate, particularly in relation to socio-ecological consequences. As energy systems continue to influence various realities of climate breakdown, new approaches are needed to support lasting engagement with energy transition. This seminar argues that specific approaches to energy literacy offer a bridge between theory and practice by expanding how energy is not only understood, but also experienced and communicated. Drawing on epistemological, ontological, and applied dimensions, this seminar proposes an approach that translates complex energy systems into accessible, holistic understandings for learners, educators, and practitioners across diverse contexts, leading possible directions for net neutrality amidst climate disruption.
