WIAS Visiting Researcher Seminar:
Professor SONNLEITNER, Willibald “Political Participation and Representation of Mexican Immigrants: A Transnational Perspective (Proposal for Further Research and Policy Implications)” (4/25)
Outline
Over the past decade, Mexico’s presence has increased in tandem with its growing share in the world’s economy. The debate surrounding the 2024 elections in both Mexico and the USA has mainly revolved around the issue of immigration, because migrant citizens and lawmakers in Mexico have been deeply involved. The purpose of the final seminar is twofold. First, we will share the results of the empirical analyses we have conducted so far. Second, we will also present further lines of research for the future to fully test the sequential logic of processes of migrant participation-representation in Mexican politics. By receiving feedback from a wider audience, we expect to be well prepared to apply for major grants to carry out future stages of our collaborative research enterprise.
