“Green nudge messages and information-collection behavior of wineries: Field experiments in Japan”(6/7)
Abstract
The food and agriculture sectors are required to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For farmers and businesses to take climate change mitigation behavior, they first need to conduct a life cycle assessment (LCA) to understand where greenhouse gas emissions are being emitted in their supply chain. In this study, we observe whether 377 wineries in Japan attend online seminars on LCA to collect information. Two hypotheses are tested. First, do wineries that have been previously affected by climate change attend the seminars? Second, do green nudge messages encourage behavioral change? From the results of our analysis, these hypotheses are rejected. Moreover, the nudge message may discourage their behavioral change. We need rigorous field evidence to effectively encourage climate change mitigation in the food and agricultural sectors.
