“Locating and Analyzing Virtual Communities on the World Wide Web: Applications for Social Sciences”
This presentation introduces CLASSIC, a software tool which allows non-expert users to locate virtual communities on the World Wide Web, as well as identifying the preferences and beliefs and predicting the behavior of these communities. It is the basis for a patent, “Software Agent for Locating and Analyzing Virtual Communities on the World Wide Web.” The purpose of the presentation is three-hold. First, Professor Chai will discuss the motivation that led to this innovation. Second, he will discuss what this tool does and how it can be used for a variety of research purposes in the social sciences. Third, he will explain how this tool works, and its basis social network theories, content analysis, and theories of rational choice.
