西洋の大国がアジアへ進出してきた時期、日本はその軍事力を支える兵学をどのように西洋から受容し、西洋に対抗するための軍制を確立していったのだろうか。近代日本の国家形成と国民形成の推進に大きな役割を果たした軍隊の創設の軌跡を、大村益次郎とその継承者である山田顕義らの動向をたどることで考える。 |
