WIAS Visiting Researcher Seminar: “Non-human Intelligence, Morals and Perpetual Peace. A Discussion Around Yuk Hui’s Kant Machine: Critical Philosophy after AI” (6/5)
Abstract
The Hong Kong philosopher Yuk Hui (b. 1985) is one of the leading contemporary thinkers in the field of technology and its impact on social and political transformation in the planetary age. His latest book, Kant Machine: Critical Philosophy After AI, addresses the fundamental questions of the possibility of knowledge raised by Immanuel Kant. The author proposes to revise Kant’s critical project at an age when human knowledge is being reframed by the explosive growth of AI-related technologies. AI is regarded as one of the greatest challenges to Western metaphysics, particularly to the line of thought inspired by Kant which focuses on the possibility of knowledge, the foundations of morals, and the prospects for perpetual peace. Kant Machine consists of three parts: the first part addresses the question of whether AI can be ‘intelligent’, the second whether it is capable of being ‘moral’, and the third part examines the possibility of realising Kant’s project of peaceful resolution of the conflicts.
The philosophers Petar Petar Bojanić, Sanja Bojanić, Masumi Nagasaka and Evgeny Blinov will take part in the discussion with the author.
