Rethinking local democracy through postwar minikomi and the legacy of Yamashiro Tomoe

Drawing on postwar Japanese intellectual history, I examine cultural practices in rural and regional communities—such as reading circles, small-scale publishing, and storytelling—focusing on women’s experiences and gender relations to explore forms of local democracy that emerged beyond formal political institutions.
