“Nature-based solutions to address both climate change and biodiversity loss: Focus on the forest sector”（7/7）
講演概要 / Abstract
Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are becoming increasingly important in terms of the societal system transformation toward a sustainable society. NbS are attracting attention as measures that can contribute to solving multiple societal challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss.
NbS are a relatively new concept proposed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the European Commission and refer to a wide range of measures that address various societal challenges, including climate change, disaster risk, human health, and economic and social development, while benefiting human well-being and biodiversity.
NbS are a vital agenda under both the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the G20 and G7.
This presentation will describe current governance debates and challenges on NbS and then focus specifically on NbS in the forest sector, which plays an essential role in addressing climate change and biodiversity loss.

MORITA, Kanako（Senior researcher at the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute）
略歴 / Bio：
Kanako Morita is a senior researcher at the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute, an adjunct research fellow at the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), and a visiting researcher at the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES). Her research interests include effective governance and financial mechanisms for sustainable development, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and biodiversity conservation. She received her Ph.D. from the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
She served as a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report WGIII Investment and Finance chapter and has been serving as a lead author for the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Transformative Change Assessment since last year.
