"Can you sing the Waseda University Alma Mater that starts with 'In the forest of Waseda Northwest of City...'"
I think there are many people who were moved by singing the Waseda University Alma Mater at Entrance Ceremony, realizing that they had entered Waseda University. I am one of them. I want you to remember how many times you have sung Alma Mater since you entered the school. Some of you may have sung Alma Mater countless times. On the other hand, there are probably many people who have never sung the song since Entrance Ceremony, or who have only sung it a few times. Alma Mater is sung at Convocation, but I see some graduates who can't sing Alma Mater song without looking at the lyrics (or even remember it), just like when they entered school. As a faculty who graduated from Waseda University, I feel sad.
Waseda's rival, Keio University, has a school song that begins with, "Look at my flag sounding in the wind...'' There seems to be an unspoken rule that you don't sing cram school songs when you've been drinking. On the other hand, the Waseda University Alma Mater is sung not only at ceremonies such as Entrance Ceremony and Convocation, but also at all occasions, such as when Waseda wins or loses in Soukei-sen(早慶戦) , and at the end of drinking parties and parties. The Waseda University Alma Mater is not only Alma Mater, but also a cheering song. Waseda University Alma Mater have a mysterious power. Singing Alma Mater strengthens the sense of unity at Waseda. Also, Alma Mater makes you feel proud to be a Waseda student and makes you love Waseda even more.
Why not sing Alma Mater in every situation of your student life, both happy and sad? Then, when you graduate from Waseda, remember Alma Mater and start your journey into society. I am looking forward to seeing them sing Alma Mater loudly at Convocation.
