[No repayment required for provided by the University Scholarship!] 2025 "Spring Scholarship Registration (Undergraduate)" Guide

The 2025 edition of "Scholarship Information Challenge" is available at each faculty office and can be downloaded from Scholarships and Financial Assistance Section website.

Waseda Scholarship offers over 250 types of scholarships, including those provided by the University, Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) scholarships, and scholarships from private organizations and local governments. Among these, scholarships provided by the University itself (average annual payment: approximately 400,000 yen) are all non-repayable grant-type scholarships, and there are approximately 150 types.

A total of 12,015 undergraduate and graduate students (27.3% of eligible students) will receive some form of financial assistance  in 2023. Furthermore, 52.7% of these students are in the form of non-repayable grant-type scholarship, which is one of the largest in the private university world (total scholarship amount for 2023: approx. 3.7 billion yen).

To apply for Scholarship, you must first complete the "Spring Scholarship Registration." The registration period for spring 2025 is from February 1st to March 14th. To register for Scholarship you will also need documents related to your family's income and earnings. Make sure you understand the process and prepare thoroughly in advance before applying.

What kind of scholarships are available?

Waseda University students can apply for the following four Scholarship systems. There are two types scholarships: grant-type scholarships that do not require repayment, and loan-type scholarships that require repayment after graduation.Furthermore, the annual amount received and selection criteria differ depending on each Scholarship system. scholarships provided by the University include the Okuma Memorial Scholarship, which is selected based on academic performance, and the Ono Azusa Memorial Scholarship (for current students), which aims to support students in financial need. There are approximately 150 types of loans, including '', all of which are benefit types that do not require repayment.

(※) Registration Scholarship at Waseda University is not required for the new national scholarship system, Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) (JASSO) Scholarship (Grant Type) + Tuition Reduction. However, we strongly recommend that you register for Scholarship in case you receive other Scholarship at the same time.

(*) Starting in 2025, tuition fees for universities and other institutions will be waived for large families (undergraduate students only). More details will be available on the Scholarships and Financial Assistance Section website from late March 2025.

When should I apply?

The scholarship registration required to receive a scholarship (online application and submission of necessary documents) is done twice a year, in spring and summer, but most scholarships are selected in spring, so it is best to apply for scholarships in spring if possible. Also, for scholarship are awarded continuously from year to year (such as Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)), you are required to apply for the scholarship every year.

What preparations do I need?

To receive a scholarship, you must apply online and submit the necessary documents during the scholarship registration period. The process from scholarship registration to selection and acceptance is as follows. About graduate students

The registration method and period for scholarship applications for graduate students vary depending on the graduate school. Please be sure to refer to the "Scholarship Information Challenge for Graduate Students" that will be distributed at each graduate school office in early February 2025. Students currently enrolled in Waseda University undergraduate programs who will be entering a Waseda graduate school in April 2025 should register for scholarship as new students graduate student, not as an undergraduate student. Scholarship registration for graduate students is only available in the spring.

Almost all scholarships for international students, boththrough Waseda or outside , are grant-type. The method of applying for Scholarship for international students varies depending on the faculty or graduate school to which you belong. In some cases, you may register Scholarship using the MyWaseda application form, while in other cases, you may not register for Scholarship and may receive information about Scholarship you are eligible for individually, or information may be posted on bulletin boards or websites.
