Nihon Hidankyo Nobel Peace Prize Commemorative Lecture

Joining members of the Nobel Prize-winning association to depict a vision for contribution to humankind and hopes for the next generation

The late Heiichi Fujii, an alumnus of this university, played a central role in founding the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo). He worked tirelessly with then-President Shinsen Ohama to secure the hosting of the 4th World Conference Against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs at the university’s Memorial Hall. Furthermore, Mr. Sōji Tanaka (Class of 1967, First Faculty of Political Science and Economics), the current representative director of the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations, and Mr. Jirō Hamazumi (Class of 1969, First Faculty of Political Science and Economics / Class of 1971, Faculty of Education), who assumed the position of new Secretary General in June 2025, also share an affiliation as alumni of this university.
On the day, in addition to Mr. Tanaka and Mr. Hamazumi, we will welcome Mr. Keita Takagaki (2025 Graduate, Sociology and Sociology), who was dispatched three times to the Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons as a Youth Delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) while attending Waseda University. Together with our university’s vision for contributing to humanity, we will share their activities both domestically and internationally.
