[Course Abstract]
Japan leads the world in population aging where one out of every five residents is now aged 65 years or older. Professor Michael Annear is an international expert in the area of healthy and active aging and shares research and insights on healthy life expectancy, physical activity, and place from urban Japan.
The course will draw on insights from expert Japanese and international contributors in the areas of psychology, health sciences, sleep, epidemiology, rehabilitation and emergency medicine to shed light on how Japan is confronting the challenges of a super-aged society with specific case studies from Japan and other countries.

Week 2: Health Status and Aged Care in Japan
Week 3: Active and Healthy Aging in Japan
Week 4: Aging in Place: Environments, Aging, and Activity
In this course, Associate Professor Dai Sugimoto, Associate Professor Yuri Hosokawa, Professor Masaki Nishida, and other university experts also make a contribution as guest speakers.
