From August 25 to August 28, 2023, Professor Yasuo Kawakami of the School of Sport Sciences Waseda University’s Health Promotion: The Joy of Sports and Exercise Unit (Top Global University) visited the Faculty of Sports Science at Kasetsart University in Thailand to hold a research seminar, “Future of Skeletal Muscle Mechanics Research,” with their staff and students.
The seminar introduced the findings of Professor Kawakami’s group regarding the visualization of human skeletal muscles and bio-measurement of muscle function. Then they discussed the future prospects in terms of of the measurement of skeletal muscle shape during contraction, the connections and interaction between multiple muscles, and from the perspective of individual differences including control strategies by the nervous system, and the relationship with sports performance and injury.

During this visit, Professor Kawakami also had the opportunity to see the excellent facilities of the faculty’s new building and had a very productive Q&A session with the enthusiastic students at the seminar. He plans to start a full-scale joint research project with Kasetsart University hereafter.
