Here and there in our living environments, there is weak energy, energy that is not used but wasted. The technology to capture this weak energy and convert it into electricity is called “energy harvesting.” Once this is achieved, it will be possible to operate sensors and other devices that work on small amounts of electricity, semi-permanently and without electricity supply. This technology will be the key to realizing integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) into society, where everything is connected via wireless communications. The Research Institute for Ambientronics is the institute that aims at innovation of energy harvesting technology and its integration into society by bringing together the research activities in materials science and device technologies that Waseda University is energetically undertaking.
