Professor Ishihara ‘s comment: Every humanities researcher has a thesis that becomes the starting point of their own research. In my case, it was a thesis titled “Sorekara as an Anti-Family Novel” (1987), which I read as not only a story of an illicit love affair with a married woman, but also a story of conflict with one’s family. What made me realize this was the name of the protagonist, Daisuke. Under prewar civil law, the eldest son essentially inherited everything, so the second son (Daisuke) was a spare in case the eldest son had an accident. After that, I realized that the market of Asahi Shimbun, where Soseki became an exclusive writer, was the middle class in Tokyo’s Yamanote area, which was the time of inheritance from the first generation to the second generation of the Meiji Restoration. As an exclusive writer for Asahi Shimbun, Soseki faithfully wrote his novels for the male intellectuals in Yamanote. Having witnessed the end of modernity while studying in England, Soseki was one of the first to see signs of its coming to Japan, and continued to write in his novels about the meaning of evolution and devolution in society, the meaning behind why women appear mysterious to men, the future of capitalism, and the limitations of the first-person subject “I.” Therefore, to discuss Soseki is to discuss modern Japan.
This is my acceptance speech after finding myself lost in an unknown world.

Professor Oshima ‘s comment: Much of the research that received the award was conducted with students in my laboratory, and both I and my students are grateful that our results were recognized. I have collaborated with Professor Yoshio Goshima of Yokohama City University, the discoverer of CRMP2, for about 20 years, and in research using disease models, I was blessed with many collaborators who allowed me to advance my research. I also believe that this is thanks to the support I received from TWIns, a research and education facility that created a system for conducting life science research. In the future, I would like to make use of the experience I have gained as a clinician and work hard to bring my research results closer to clinical applications.。

Professor Osu‘s comment: Thank you very much for selecting me for the Research Award. I am extremely honored to be recognized for leading original research. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the professors who have guided me in advancing this research, to my collaborators who engaged in discussions and worked alongside me, and to everyone in the laboratory. I am deeply encouraged by the recognition given to my efforts to bridge basic research on motor control and learning with rehabilitation. There is still much to be uncovered about the mechanisms of the brain and mind. I will continue working hard to pursue creative and meaningful research.

Professor Kawanishi ‘s comment: When I was a child, I was interested in how far radio waves from a microphone could reach. Now, I am happy to be able to continue the same quest by conducting experiments with terahertz waves, a new radio wave band. It is important to seamlessly grasp the light and radio waves that support communication, while keeping an eye on the physics, establish a field of engineering, and connect it to social implementation. Information and communication technology is about to greatly change the nature of social infrastructure. To realize a highly reliable and sustainable optical radio convergence network based on the global environment, we will continue research and development with a view to nurturing the next generation of researchers through the JST ASPIRE International Brain Circulation Project. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all my co-researchers, students, and university staff from Japan and abroad.

Professor Hino‘s comment:I am truly honored to receive the Research Award for Leading Research. My research has been shaped through what I have learned from the various professors at this university and through conversations with students. With the generous support I have received from the university, I have been able to develop my research ideas. I would like to express my gratitude for the support I have received, and I will take this award as encouragement to work harder to further grow as a researcher. As the director of the university baseball club who regularly encourages students to excel in both academics and sports, I will put even more effort into demonstrating the integrity of the two principles.

Professor Miyachi ‘s comment: I am truly honored to receive this prestigious award. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the faculty, staff, and students of the Faculty of Sport Sciences for providing me with an excellent educational and research environment over the past four years since I took up my post. In recent years, research on health and sports has evolved significantly due to the development of technology. We are scientifically researching the optimal exercise and dietary methods for each individual through the use of wearable devices and AI (artificial intelligence) and the analysis of intestinal bacteria and genes. Based on this cutting-edge research, we aim to improve mental and physical health through sports and contribute to the realization of an environmentally friendly and sustainable society. Encouraged by this award, I intend to continue to work hard and pursue my educational and research activities. I would appreciate your continued guidance and encouragement.
