Compton camera for 3D multi-color molecular imaging, in the palm of your hands

Waseda University succeeded in developing a compact Compton camera (580 g), a promising detector capable of visualizing a wide range of energy in medical imaging. The camera was able to obtain a 3-D multi-color image with high efficiency and good energy resolution in a small-animal molecular imaging experiment using three different energy sources simultaneously. This research was presented at the IEEE Medical Imaging Conference in France on November 4.

Professor Jun Kataoka (Waseda University Faculty of Science and Engineering), who led this research, is leading studies in molecular imaging for the next generation, exploring its possibilities for application in medicine, the environment, and astrophysics.
