On December 13, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) announced its latest interim results. This is the organization that has been running experiments such as the search for the Higgs boson particle, which is the source of mass. This experiment has been carried out using the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by two international research groups. One of these is the ATLAS Experiment Team, centered on Japan, the U.S. and Europe and the other is the CMS Experiment Team, centered on the U.S. and Europe. Associate Professor Kohei Yorita of the Waseda Research Institute for Science and Engineering is participating in this experiment as one member of the ATLAS Japan Group that consists of 15 organizations in Japan, including the International Center for Elementary Particle Physics (ICEPP) and the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK). A summary of these results are as follows.
