Faith in Translation: A Muslim Story in Japan
Qureshi Amin / クレシ愛民
May 28, Wednesday
17:30–19:00
Room 701, Building 11
Waseda Campus
Join us for an intimate conversation with a SILS alumnus and one of Japan’s early second-generation Muslims, as he reflects on his evolving relationship with faith and culture. The son of a Pakistani father and a Japanese mother, he once felt the need to suppress his Muslim background to better blend into Japanese society.
But formative encounters at SILS sparked a journey of rediscovery—raising questions not just about identity, but about truth, purpose, and how best to live a life of service. His path has since led him to establish youth support initiatives, pursue soul-searching studies at Harvard, and begin a career with an eye toward social impact.
Today, he continues to explore how a grounded, joyful, and relevant expression of faith might take shape in Japan—empowering himself and the next generation to navigate identity with confidence and fostering harmony in an increasingly diverse country.
