Abdullah Baabood /الأستاذ عبدالله باعبود　Chair Professor

Dr Abdullah Baabood is an academic from Oman with wide regional and international experience. He is a graduate in business studies and international relations and holds a Masters in Business Studies (MBA), a Masters in International Relations (MA) and a Doctorate (PhD) in International Political Economy from the University of Cambridge. Abdullah has taught and carried out research at different universities and institutions in Asia, Europe and the United States. Among his many posts, he was a visiting professor at the Middle East Institute at the National University of Singapore and a visiting professor at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar. He previously held the positions of the Director of the Gulf Studies Programme and the Gulf Studies Center at Qatar University and was the Director of the Gulf Research Center at the University of Cambridge, UK.
His teaching and research interests focus on international relations and international political economy, especially globalization and regionalism. His area of focus are the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), their economic, social and political development, and their external and geopolitical relations. Abdullah is a member of numerous international research institutions and thinktanks and holds various senior roles including board membership at several academic organisations, and is an advisor to global research programs. He also consults on international business and international relations, and participates in track II diplomacy and conflict resolution. He has published widely and is frequently invited to speak at international conferences and seminars, as well as various media programs.

الأستاذ عبد الله باعبود أكاديمي من عمان يتمتع بخبرة إقليمية ودولية واسعة. فهو خريج في إدارة الأعمال والعلاقات الدولية وحاصل على درجة الماجستير في إدارة الأعمال(MBA) وماجستير في العلاقات الدولية(MA) ودكتوراه(PhD) من جامعة كامبريدج في الاقتصاد السياسي الدولي. عمل الأستاذ باعبود بالتدريس والبحوث العلمية في جامعات ومؤسسات مختلفة في آسيا وأوروبا والولايات المتحدة. ومن بين مناصبه العديدة, عمل أستاذا زائرا في معهد الشر الأوسط, في جامعة سنغافورة الوطنية وأستاذ زائر في كلية العلوم الإنسانية والاجتماعية في جامعة حمد بن خليفة, قطر. وشغل سابقاً منصب مدير مركز الخليج للأبحاث في جامعة كامبريدج ومدير برنامج دراسات الخليج- ومدير مركز دراسات الخليج في جامعة قطر.

تتركز اهتمامات الأستاذ باعبود في التدريس والبحث على العلاقات الدولية والاقتصاد السياسي الدولي, وخاصة في مجالات العولمة والإقليمية. وتنصب إهتماماته البحثية في مجال التنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والسياسية لدول مجلس التعاون الخليجي وعلاقاتها الخارجية والجيوسياسية. الأستاذ باعبود عضو في العديد من المؤسسات البحثية الدولية ومراكز الفكر ويشغل مناصب عليا مختلفة ويعمل كعضو في مجالس إدارة العديد من المنظمات الأكاديمية ومستشارا لبرامج البحوث العالمية. كما أنه يعمل كمستشار في الأعمال التجارية والعلاقات الدولية ويشارك في الحوارات الدبلوماسية الغير رسمية (المسارالثاني) وحل النزاعات. وللأستاذ باعبود كتابات ومنشورات عديدة وعلى نطاق واسع وله مساهمات ومشاركات عديدة في المؤتمرات و الندوات الدولية و كذلك البرامج الإعلامية.

HOSAKA, Shuji / شوجي هوساكا- باحث أول (أستاذ)　Senior Researcher (Professor)

After receiving an M.A. (Oriental History) from Keio University, Mr. HOSAKA Shuji became Special Assistant of the Japanese Embassies in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. While working in Kuwait, he experienced the Gulf Crisis and lived in Baghdad for four months as a guest of Iraq. Since then, he has held various posts in the field of the Middle Eastern studies, including Professor of International Center for Human Sciences, Kindai University, Osaka, Director of JSPS Cairo Research Station, Egypt, and Board Member of the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ). On April 1st of this year, he was appointed Senior Researcher (Professor) at the Research and Innovation Center of Waseda University and a member of the Qatar Chair Project. He served as President of Japan Association for Middle East Studies (JAMES) from 2021 to 2025. His area of ​​expertise is the modern and contemporary history of the Gulf region. Among his publications are Jihadism (2017), Cyber-Islam (2014), Osama Bin Laden: His Life and Jihad (2011), and Saudi Arabia: Oil Kingdom in Transition (2006). His latest work, Muhammad bin Abd al-Wahhab, is scheduled for publication at the end of May.

بعد حصوله على درجة الماجستير في التاريخ الشرقي من جامعة كيئو، شغل الأستاذ شوجي هوساكا منصب مساعد خاص في السفارتين اليابانيتين في الكويت والمملكة العربية السعودية. وخلال فترة عمله في الكويت، عايش أزمة الخليج، وأقام في بغداد لمدة أربعة أشهر بدعوة من العراق. ومنذ ذلك الحين، شغل مناصب عديدة في مجال دراسات الشرق الأوسط، منها أستاذ في المركز الدولي للعلوم الإنسانية بجامعة كينداي في أوساكا، ومدير محطة أبحاث القاهرة التابعة للجمعية اليابانية لتعزيز العلوم (JSPS) في مصر، وعضو مجلس إدارة معهد اقتصاديات الطاقة في اليابان (IEEJ). وفي الأول من أبريل من هذا العام، عُيّن باحثًا أول (أستاذًا) في مركز البحوث والابتكار بجامعة واسيدا، وعضوًا في مشروع كرسي قطر. كما شغل منصب رئيس الجمعية اليابانية لدراسات الشرق الأوسط (JAMES) من عام 2021 إلى عام 2025. ويُعدّ التاريخ الحديث والمعاصر لمنطقة الخليج مجال خبرته. من بين مؤلفاته: الجهادية (2017)، والإسلام الإلكتروني (2014)، وأسامة بن لادن: حياته وجهاده (2011)، والمملكة العربية السعودية: مملكة النفط في مرحلة انتقالية (2006). ومن المقرر صدور أحدث أعماله، “محمد بن عبد الوهاب” في نهاية شهر مايو 2026.

MALLETT, Alexander Philip John / الدكتور أليكس ماليت　Researcher （Associate Professor）

Alex Mallett received a BA in History and MA in Medieval Studies from University College London, and PhD in Islamic History from the University of Edinburgh (2009). Since then, he has worked at a number of institutions in Europe, including the University of Birmingham, Royal Holloway University of London, Exeter University, and Leiden University. His work examines relations between Muslims and Christians in the Middle Ages, focusing particularly on the Crusades during the period of Frankish settlement in the Levant (1097-1291). His publications have included Popular Muslim Reactions to the Franks in the Levant (Ashgate, 2014), the edited volumes Medieval Muslim Historians and the Franks in the Levant (Brill, 2014) and Franks and Crusades in Medieval Eastern Christian Historiography (Brepols, 2021), and the co-edited 5-volume reference set Christian-Muslim Relations. A Bibliographical History, 600-900 (Brill, 2010-2013). Another volume, entitled Magic in Malta: Sellem bin al-Sheikh Mansur and the Roman Inquisition, 1605 and produced with colleagues at the University of Exeter, will be published later in 2021 (Brill). For the last three years, he has been working at the Waseda Institute for Advanced Studies, on an edition and translation of the Egyptian writer al-Maqrizi’s Arabic chronicle al-Suluk for the Ayyubid period (1171-1250).

حصل أليكس ماليت على البكالوريوس في التاريخ والماجستير في دراسات العصور الوسطى من ، ودكتوراه في التاريخ الإسلامي من جامعة إدنبرة (2009). منذ ذلك الحين ، عمل في عدد من المؤسسات في أوروبا ، بما في ذلك جامعة برمنغهام ، وجامعة رويال هولواي في لندن ، وجامعة إكستر ، وجامعة ليدن. تهتم دراساته في العلاقات بين المسلمين والمسيحيين في العصور الوسطى ، ويركز أليكس بشكل خاص على الحروب الصليبية خلال فترة الاستيطان الفرنجي في بلاد الشام (1097-1291). تضمنت منشوراته ردود الفعل الإسلامية الشعبية على الفرنجة في بلاد الشام (أشجيت ، 2014) ، والمجلدات المحررة المؤرخون المسلمون في العصور الوسطى والفرنجة في بلاد الشام (بريل ، 2014) والفرانكس والحروب الصليبية في التأريخ المسيحي الشرقي في العصور الوسطى (بريبولس ، 2021) ، ومجموعة المراجع المحررة المشتركة المكونة من 5 مجلدات العلاقات المسيحية الإسلامية. تاريخ ببليوغرافي، 600-900 (بريل ، 2010-2013). مجلد آخر بعنوان   “ السحر في مالطا: سليم بن الشيخ منصور  ومحاكم التفتيش الرومانية 1605″ والذي عمل فيه مع زملائه في جامعة إكستر ، وسيتم نشره في وقت لاحق في عام 2021 (ابريل). على مدى السنوات الثلاث الماضية حتى الآن،  يعمل أليكس في معهد واسيدا للدراسات العليا، على إصدار وترجمة تأريخ عربي للكاتب المصري المقريزي بعنوان السلوك للفترة الأيوبية (1171-1250)

KUROKAWA, Chiemi / د. تشيمي كوروكاوا – أستاذ مساعد　Assistant Professor

Chiemi KUROKAWA holds a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Education from the Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation, Hiroshima University. She specializes in Comparative Education and International Educational Development, with a primary research focus on the education of Sudanese migrants and refugees. Her additional research interests include school meal challenges facing Muslim migrants, as well as school choice.

Prior to her current position, she worked in the private sector, at the Embassy of Japan in Sudan (Political and Economic Affairs), and as a JSPS Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Faculty of Global Studies, Sophia University, Tokyo. Her publications include a co-authored article, “Reversing brain drain to brain gain: Examining the drive of educated Sudanese migrants to return and contribute to their home country” (International Journal of Educational Development, 2025). She also served as supervising translator for the picture book  Amira’s Diary of the Sudanese Revolution and War.
