You must be a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited university on June 15, 2026 (the program start date).
The following students cannot apply:
high school students
graduate students
community college students
foundation / preparatory program students
students on a leave of absence
If you will graduate in summer 2026, you may apply only if you can submit an official document proving that you are enrolled at your university until June 2026.
You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5/4.0.
Students with a GPA below 2.5/4.0 cannot apply.
Applications must be submitted online. The online application will be available starting Monday, February 16. Please attach the following documents to the online application.
You must submit an official transcript of grades issued by your university.
If your transcript is not in English or Japanese, you must also submit an official translation with a notarized stamp issued by an embassy or certified notary office.
If you are a first-year student and your grades are not yet available, you must submit:
a list of your currently registered courses, and
one letter of recommendation from a professor at your university.
You must also submit an official Grading Scale document together with your transcript
(for example, a page from your university website explaining the grading system).
All applicants must submit an official Certificate of Enrollment issued by their university.
This must clearly show:
that you are a full-time undergraduate student, and
your enrollment period and (if applicable) expected graduation date.
Please submit a photocopy or scanned copy of the passport page showing your photo and passport number.
Please submit a short statement explaining your reasons for participating in the Waseda Summer Session
(200 words or less, in English).

Students from the U.S., Canada, and Europe do not need a visa if their stay in Japan is for 90 days or less. On the other hand, students from Asia, Africa, and the Middle East need a visa. For students who require a visa, the Waseda Summer Session Office will send an “Letter of Admission” and “Letter of Invitation” after confirming payment. After receiving the documents, please apply for the visa by yourself at the nearest Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General. It may take several weeks for the visa to be issued, so please apply well in advance.

Students who need a visa will receive a “Letter of Acceptance” and “Letter of Invitation” by e-mail from the Waseda University Summer Session Office around May 2026.

Students who need a visa to enter Japan should apply for a visa at the nearest Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General as soon as the Letter of Acceptance and Letter of Invitation are received from the Waseda University Summer Session Office. It may take several weeks to obtain a visa, so please apply well in advance.
The Waseda University Summer Session is open to all undergraduate students regardless of disability status, gender, nationality, religion, creed, or political beliefs.
The faculty and staff of this program will work with the Accessibility Resource Center and other relevant departments to provide academic accommodations in this program as outlined in the “WSS Disability Access Guidelines”.
