Before 1998
Individual faculties, departments and graduate schools provided their own support services for students with disabilities.
This led to discrepancies in funding, staffing and resourcing standards.
1999
Guidelines on Support Services for Students with Disabilities released.
Under the new scheme, faculties, departments, Academic Affairs Division and Student Affairs Division provide uniform standards of support services.
2006
OSD opens at Waseda campus (Building 7) with dedicated staff providing comprehensive range of services.
2013
Waseda University is formally affiliated with the Postsecondary Education Programs Network of Japan (PEPNet-Japan).
2014
Support Department for Students with Developmental Disorders opens at Waseda campus (Building 25)
OSD restructured into two departments: Support Department for Students with Physical Disabilities and Support Department for Students with Developmental Disorders.
Support Department for Students with Physical Disabilities relocated from Building 7 to Building 3 on Waseda campus.
2015
FD/SD seminar: The future of remote support services
Sponsored by the Postsecondary Education Programs Network of Japan (PEPNet-Japan) and Tsukuba University of Technology in conjunction with the Waseda University Office for Students with Disabilities.
2016
Basic Principles for Supporting Students with Disabilities at Waseda University released.
OSD joins Association on Higher Education and Disability of Japan (AHEAD JAPAN).
OSD wins Good Practice Prize at the 12th Japan Postsecondary Education Programs Symposium in the Support for Hearing Impaired Students category.
2017
OSD incorporated into the Student Diversity Center.
