Based on the University’s General Business Owner Action Plans, the successful initiatives and policies implemented over the last three years (April 2018 – March 2021) were evaluated by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and Waseda was awarded its first Kurumin certification(*) on January 11, 2022.
Thus, the Kurumin certification mark can now be used by faculty and staff of the University.
In addition, when applying for public research funding, submitting proof of the Kurumin certification could gain additional evaluation points.
(*)The Kurumin certification is awarded by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare to enterprises who have set and reached goals under their General Business Owner Action Plans, specifically towards the advancement of measures to support raising children of the next generation. |

General Business Owner Action Plans
Waseda University was awarded the Gold Recognition in the PRIDE Index 2023, a recognition based on an evaluation of initiatives that support LGBTQ+ in the workplace, formulated by the voluntary organization “work with Pride”.
About the PRIDE Index The Pride Index is an evaluation of initiatives that support LGBTQ+ people in the workplace. It was first formulated in 2016 by “work with Pride” in Japan. Its five indicators are: Policy (action plan); Representation (building a supportive community); Inspiration (awareness-raising activities); Development (personnel system / program); and Engagement / Empowerment (contribution to society / public relations activities).If the prescribed criteria are met, 1 point is awarded for each indicator. 5 points are awarded gold recognition, 4 points are awarded silver recognition, and 3 points are awarded bronze recognition. |
