Waseda University offers the Data Science Education Program to students of all faculties and graduate schools to learn data science. Almost all lectures in this program are provided on-demand, so you can take them at any time during the course period with internet access.
In this program, students will learn not only the "theory" of data science that is necessary in various fields, but also the "skills" (analysis methods, programming, etc.) for actually handling data. In addition, students will learn ways of thinking that link knowledge in their own "specialized" fields. In order to enable students to learn such content step by step, from the basics to advanced topics, this program offers the following four subject groups.
- Group A: Courses for understanding the concept of data science
The first step is to take Group A subjects, where students will learn the basic concepts of data science, including statistics and machine learning, in a unified manner, and also acquire basic skills.
- Group B: Basic subjects for learning and utilizing data science in depth
In Group B courses, students will learn mathematics and statistical analysis, which are necessary to learn and utilize data science in greater depth.
- Group C: Courses for applying data science to your field of expertise
In Group C courses, students who have studied Group A courses learn the knowledge and analytical methods necessary to utilize data science in their own fields of expertise. Data science deals with a variety of data, so it is a good idea to choose courses that fit your field of expertise.
- Group D: Courses for utilizing data science outside of one's own field of expertise (scheduled to be added after 2023)
The D group of courses aims to help students who have studied several C group of courses to acquire a broad perspective on data science and to be able to apply data science in areas outside their own field of expertise.
As part of this program, we have also established Certification Program in Data Science. There are four levels of the certification system, and certificates are issued to students who meet the requirements for each level. By utilizing the certification system, students can acquire the skills they are aiming for. The skills they acquire can be used in writing reports, research activities, and job hunting while at university. They can also be used in their careers after graduation.
