Center for Data Science, in cooperation with the Global Education Center (GEC), offers a Data Science Education Program for all undergraduate and graduate students, allowing any Waseda University student to learn data science from the basics, regardless of faculty, graduate school, or year.

To understand data science, you need to acquire a wide range of knowledge, including statistics, machine learning, and AI.

However, simply knowing this knowledge does not allow you to apply it to real-world problems.

At Waseda University, we offer courses that allow students to learn not only the know-how but also the concepts of data science, from basics to applications, with the aim of being able to actually use data analysis methods on their own. Students who want to learn data science in depth, as well as those who have never studied data science before and those in the humanities can take this course.

Curriculum Overview

Waseda University offers a "Data Science Education Program" that enables students to simultaneously acquire the "theory" of data science, which is necessary regardless of field, as well as the "skills" for handling actual data. The aim is for students to be able to link data science with knowledge in their own field of expertise and utilize it.

The Data Science Education Program is offered as a fully on-demand course, allowing you to study anywhere, anytime. This program not only teaches the theory of data science, which is necessary regardless of field, but also the skills to handle actual data. In addition, you will learn ways of thinking that link knowledge from your own field of expertise. To that end, we have prepared four courses, A, B, C, and D, as a systematic program for learning data science in stages, from basic to advanced.

In addition, if there is something you do not understand about the content of each subject, you can use chat and BBS, as well as the MSC (Math and Stat Center) to receive face-to-face or online support from a Learning Assistant (LA).

For those studying data science for the first time (Overview of Group A courses)

Data science is an academic field where the type of data and the purpose of its use are important. If you are studying data science for the first time, we recommend that you start with Group A subjects. There are subjects called "Introduction to Data Science α, β, γ, δ" that teach the concept of data science in a unified way. On the other hand, if you want to learn mainly about statistics, you should study "Statistical Literacy α, β". You can also try "Data Science Practice" using the concepts and skills of data science that you have learned so far. You will put the data you have obtained to practical use.

As part of our data science education program, we have established Certification Program in Data Science to provide clear goals for the study of data science. This certification system has four levels to guarantee students' data science abilities, and by clearly indicating the goals to be achieved for each level, it provides an opportunity for each student to learn data science that matches their interests. Students who meet the requirements for each level will be issued a certificate by the Global Education Center.
