Ahead of the Rio Olympics
I was picked to play for Japan while still a student at Waseda University, and after graduation I continued playing water polo in the professional leagues of Slovakia, Italy and Hungary. During qualification for the London Olympics, I was very disappointed to lose my place in the team, but that disappointment only made me try even harder for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics this time. Being the eldest person on the Poseidon Japan team, I hope to give objective advice to the other players and try to change the team’s mood when things aren’t going smoothly, while fully enjoying playing on the world’s biggest stage.
During my student days, it was a normal part of training for a captain to create menus and arrange team gatherings, and to this day I still utilize this ability cultivated at Waseda University. Throughout the years at Waseda University, you’ll have opportunities to acquire and demonstrate capacity to think about things by yourselves such as club activities and studies. I hope you will develop such initiative, set yourselves a specific goal such as the next Tokyo Olympics, and do your best to achieve a positive result.
Please show your support for Poseidon Japan, Japan’s Water Polo Team.
