慶應義塾大学法学部政治学科を卒業後, オランダのInstitute of Social Studiesで開発研究学修士号を取得。東京大学大学院法学政治学研究科博士課程(単位取得退学)を経て, カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校にて博士号(Ph.D.)を取得。専門は, 比較政治学, 民主主義論, 政治制度論, 東南アジア政治, フィリピン政治。主な日本語著作に, 『戦場化するアジア政治 民主主義と権威主義のせめぎ合い』(共編著, 日経BP, 2025)『比較政治学』(ミネルヴァ書房, 2014)、 共訳書に『それでも選挙に行く理由』(アダム・プシェヴォスキ著, 白水社, 2021), 『民主主義対民主主義』(アレンド・レイプハルト著, 勁草書房, 2015) などがある。英語著作・論文多数。V-Dem East Asia Regional Center所長(2019—現在), 世界政治学会会長(2025-2027)などを務める。
Yuko Kasuya’s research focuses on Comparative Politics, regime transitions, political institutions, and the politics of East and Southeast Asia, with a specialized interest in the Philippines. She is currently serving as the President of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) for the 2025–2027 term and is the founding director of the V-Dem East Asia Regional Center. She earned her Ph.D. in International Affairs from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), an M.A. in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies (Netherlands), and her B.A. in Law from Keio University. Her recent publications include the edited volume Decolonization and Regime Change in Asia (Springer, 2026) and the co-edited Routledge Handbook of Autocratization in Southeast Asia (2025). Her scholarly work has appeared in leading journals, including Asian Review, Electoral Studies, Journal of East Asian Studies, and Party Politics.
