専門は労働経済学・応用計量経済学。「技術進化、人口動態、気候変動といった長期的な社会変化が、労働・経済・社会に与える影響」を大きな研究テーマとし、応用計量経済学の手法と大規模行政データを用いた実証研究を行っている。特に米国の労働市場に詳しい。
現在は、労働経済学、マクロ経済学、環境経済学の接点に関心を持ち、気候変動が地域労働市場、およびマクロ経済に与える影響の分析に取り組んでいる。温暖化が米国の労働分配率、労働参加率、失業率、障害給付受給などに及ぼすインパクトについて、地域パネルデータを用いた推定を進めている。
博士論文では、移民流入が自動化の進展を抑制する経路を通じ、地域の賃金水準に与える影響を分析した。発展研究として、移民流入が職場での危険な作業の自動化を妨げ、労災リスクの下げ止まりの一因となっている可能性について検証を進めている。
この他、ゲーム理論を用いた交渉モデルに関する理論研究、および同モデルを用いたコンピュータ・ラボ実験の論文も発表している。He specializes in labor economics and applied econometrics. Using an econometric approach, his research focuses on “the socioeconomic impacts of technological development, demographic change, and climate change. He has particular expertise in US regional labor markets, He is currently engaged in empirical research on the effects of climate change on regional labor markets and the macroeconomy, the effects of industrial robots and immigration on the risk of occupational injury, and the effects of artificial intelligence on the productivity of knowledge workers. Previously, he conducted theoretical and experimental research on game theoretic bargaining.
