ハワイ大学で第二言語研究の修士号、カーネギーメロン大学で第二言語習得の博士号を取得しました。博士論文では、第二言語読解における高次思考力 （クリティカル・シンキングなどを含む）の育成をテーマとしました。
大学院修了後、ジョージア工科大学でポストドクトラル・ティーチングフェローとして日本語を教え、その後、東京大学で特任講師として6年間勤務し、アカデミック英語や応用言語学の授業を担当しました。
アジア系のルーツを持ち、アメリカ東海岸で育った経験から、言語・人種・アイデンティティの関係に興味を持つようになり、特にコロナ禍初期にその関心が高まりました。現在は、継承語や第二言語能力に対して「恥」の感情を生じさせる人種・言語的（raciolinguistic）イデオロギーを問い直して解体し、当事者たちに「学びほぐし（unlearn） 」のプロセスを支援することを目指しています。詳しくは個人ウェブサイトをご覧ください。
I completed an MA in second language studies at the University of Hawaii and a PhD in second language acquisition at Carnegie Mellon University, where my dissertation focused on fostering higher order thinking skills in second language reading. Upon completing graduate school in the U.S., I worked as a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow at Georgia Institute of Technology teaching Japanese language courses and then worked as a Project Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo for six years teaching courses in academic English and applied linguistics.
As a mixed-heritage Asian American who grew up on the east coast of the U.S., I became increasingly interested in the intersections of language, race, and identity, particularly during the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic. Currently, my research focuses on ways to help individuals question, dismantle, and unlearn racial and linguistic (raciolinguistic) ideologies that produce feelings of shame toward heritage and second-language abilities.
