東アジアの貿易と経済発展を専攻。日本貿易振興機構（JETRO）、長銀総合研究所、青山学院大 学経済学部助教授、東京大学大学院総合文化研究科・教養学部教授を経て 2006 年より現職。 2014 年 Cambridge 大学訪問研究員、2015 年韓国・延世大学訪問研究員。外国為替審議会、 産業構造審議会などの政府委員を多数歴任。第15-16期日本学術会議会員。共編著にChatham House “Beyond “Abenomics”: Japan’s integration catch-up and prospects for Japan-UK cooperation”（2019）、『アジア経済論』、日本評論社、2017年、『これからの日本の国際協力』、日本評論社、2015年など。
Specialized in trade and economic development in East Asia. After working at Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Chobin Research Institute, Aoyama Gakuin University as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Economics, and the University of Tokyo as a professor in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, he has been in his current position since 2006. He was a visiting fellow at Cambridge University in 2014 and at Yonsei University in South Korea in 2015. He has served on numerous government committees, including the Foreign Exchange Council and the Industrial Structure Council. He is a member of the Science Council of Japan for the 15th and 16th terms. He is co-editor of Chatham House “Beyond ‘Abenomics’: Japan’s integration catch-up and prospects for Japan-UK UK cooperation” (2019), ‘Asian Economic Theory,’ Nihon Hyoronsha, 2017, ‘Japan’s International Cooperation in the Future,’ Nihon Hyoronsha, 2015, and others.
