私はテキサスのガルフコーストで育ち、応用物理学の学士号を取得しています。卒業後、ロサンゼルスでFAX販売の営業担当をしてから、1989年には中国の西北大学で中国語を勉強しながらとても興味深い1年間を過ごし、その年の６月に離れています。日本には1990年に来て、茨城と福島で10年間、幼稚園児からプロの翻訳者や通訳者まで、幅広い生徒に英語を教えました。2000年に帰国し、スタンフォード大学大学院教育学部で外国語教育の修士号と博士号を取得しました。この間、留学生向け英語プログラムで大学院生を教え、その後、ランゲージセンターのアカデミック・テクノロジー・スペシャリストとして、事務局やすべてのランゲージプログラムの講師と一緒に働くスタッフ職に就きました。スタンフォード大学では、言語学部、教員養成プログラムでも講義を担当し、生涯学習プログラムでは、ノンネイティブの社会人を対象としたコースをいくつか開発しました。私の研究テーマは、テクノロジーの利用に重きを置いた外国語教育法です。
I grew up on the Gulf Coast of Texas and got my undergraduate degree in applied physics. After graduating, I went to Los Angeles, worked as a fax machine sales rep and then spent a very interesting year studying Chinese at Xi Bei University (西北大学) in China, leaving in June of 1989. I came to Japan in 1990 and taught English for 10 years to a wide variety of students in Ibaraki and Fukushima, from kindergartners to professional translators and interpreters. In 2000 I returned to the US and completed an MA and PhD in foreign language education at the Stanford Graduate School of Education. I taught graduate students in the English for Foreign Students program throughout my graduate programs and then took a staff position as the Academic Technology Specialist for the Language Center, working with the administration and the lecturers in all language programs. At Stanford, I also taught courses in the Linguistics Department, the Teacher Education Program and developed several courses for non-native professionals in Continuing Studies Program. My research interests include foreign language teaching methods, with a focus on technology.
