【Introduction by Professor Tamio Nakamura, Coordinator of the Waseda LL.M. program】
This book discusses the impact of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights on corporate law in Asian countries, particularly on human rights considerations in corporate governance. It further examines how companies in Asian countries are addressing issues such as environmental damage, climate change, and human rights abuses associated with their business activities.
■One of the editors of this book, Attorney Jason Cheung, is a graduate of our Graduate School of Law’s LL.M. (law masters) “Asian Economic Integration and Law” (Asia LL.M.) program. The chapter that discusses climate litigation in Asia is written by another Asia LL.M. graduate, Daniel Linden. A chapter examining the impact of the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive on Asian countries is written by Professor Tamio Nakamura, who teaches in our Asia LL.M. program. Professor Shin Matsuzawa also discusses Japan in a chapter discussing the impact of the UN Guiding Principles on Japan and China from the perspective of corporate crime control. Thus, this book demonstrates that our Asia LL.M. program addresses contemporary issues and provides a foundation for further advanced research.
