【TGU Multiscale Analysis, Modeling and Simulation】Our student member receive JSPS Ikushi Prize

Mr. Kazuma Fujiwara, 2nd-year doctoral student at “Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering” Department of Pure and Applied Physics, has received the Sixth (FY2015) JSPS Ikushi Prize Award.

Research topic: “Mathematical Foundations of Semirelativistic Nonlinear Fields”

The aim of the award-winning study is to found semirelativistic equation mathematically, which is one of fundamental equations of relativistic quantum dynamics.
Semirelativistic equation may be derived by a modification of Schrödinger equations from the view point of both quantum and relativistic dynamics and considered to have a lot of applications in general physics.
However it is necessary to arrange the mathematical basis of semirelativistic equations so as to understand physical phenomenon better by semirelativistic equations.
In the award-winning study, the mathematical basis of semirelativistic equations has been founded by studying the time behavior of solutions of semirelativistic equations. By this study, it has been shown that we have time global solutions in more general situation and we don’t have any solutions corresponding to some rough initial data.

The Mathematics and Physics unit of TGU project has supported his research trip to the University of Pisa so that he can study fractional Leibniz rules with Professor Vladimir Georgiev and Professor Tohru Ozawa.
Leibniz rule gives a formula so as to understand the smoothness of a product of functions by the functions themselves. Since interactions of physical phenomenon are often expressed by a product of functions, it is very important to see how smooth the product is so as to study physical phenomenon mathematically.
By their study, some Leibniz rules have been extended more generally by a simple calculation.
Now, they are studying some physical equations by applying new Leibniz rules and
the Mathematics and Physics unit of TGU project will continue to fully support them.
