"Hong Kong Cuisine Nijyuyonmi" is located on Waseda Street, about a 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Waseda Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line towards Kagurazaka. The owner wanted to serve delicious Hong Kong cuisine, so he took over the location of an Asian restaurant and opened in 2021. The name of the restaurant, "Nijyuyonmi," refers to a famous herbal tea in Hong Kong, and the restaurant has retained the name and interior of the previous restaurant.
Hong Kong cuisine is characterized by its mild spiciness and flavor, which makes the most of the quality of the ingredients and is familiar to Japanese people. This restaurant is served by a chef from Guangzhou who trained in Hong Kong for about 10 years. The restaurant is particular about being "authentic" even in the smallest details, such as sourcing seasonings from Hong Kong, and you can feel the owner's passion.
The interior of the store has condiments written in Chinese and many pictures of Hong Kong and Macau on display, giving it an exotic feel, while the wooden floors and tables give it a sense of security. It seems that the store has a particularly large number of customers from Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan, and when I visited the store, I heard people speaking languages other than Japanese, which made me feel like I wasn't at Waseda.
Left: Look for the green sign with the store name on a white background. The wooden door and large glass windows give off a chic atmosphere.
Right: There are about 20 table seats inside the restaurant. There is a brightly lit counter and a warm atmosphere.
Another feature of the shop is the close relationship between the shop and the customers, and many repeat customers are attracted by the owner, Mr. Tanaka's bright and friendly personality. He places great importance on creating a friendly atmosphere where people can become friends.
This time, we had the "Hong Kong-style Beef Kishimen (Dry Fried Beef)," which Tanaka himself loves, and the extremely popular "Hong Kong Char Siu Rice (our proud special char siu rice)." By the way, it's nice that all the dishes come with a mellow and gentle-tasting egg soup!

The most popular dish is the owner's recommended "Hong Kong-style Beef Kishimen" for 1,080 yen.
"Hong Kong-style Beef Kishimen" is a Japanese take off the rice noodles used in Hong Kong, and adopted kishimen . The chewy kishimen are perfectly coated with the sweet sauce, making it an excellent dish! The crunchy bean sprouts add a nice accent and make you want to keep eating. Also, pouring the chili oil sauce that comes on the side gives it an ethnic flavor. The moderate spiciness makes it even more difficult to stop eating. Another point is that it's so filling that you'll be satisfied with just one plate!

Colorful and appetizing "Hong Kong Char Siu Rice" 980 yen
The next dish we had was the "Hong Kong Char Siu Rice," an eye-catching dish with its thick slices of pork and large fried egg. The pork slices are different from those commonly seen in Japan, and are a vibrant red color thanks to the authentic method used in Hong Kong. With one bite, you'll be surprised by their springy texture and meaty flavor. The rice topped with the fried egg is drizzled in a sweet sauce, and is delicious either on its own or with the pork slices. The bok choy served with the dish is refreshing and goes well with the pork slices.

The "Egg Tart" (330 yen) is just the right size to have on your plate even when you're full. It's also filled with plenty of cream!
For dessert, we had the ever-popular "egg tart (Hong Kong style egg tart)." When we bit into the piping hot egg tart, the rich, creamy custard sauce filled our mouths, making us feel happy. The flaky, pie-like tart crust was also a nice accent. It's not as sweet as it looks, so it's recommended even for those who don't like sweet things.
There are also over 50 items on the menu, from a la carte dishes to, such as "Hong Kong Chicken Rice," "Hong Kong-style Fish Ball Curry," and "Hong Kong-style Milk Pudding," all of which are sure to pique your interest! Be sure to give the owner's carefully selected Hong Kong cuisine a try.
