On Monday, September 11, 2023, representatives from Waseda University’s Faculty of Sport Sciences visited the University of Bath to sign a new departmental agreement with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The University of Bath is a public university in the UK and is located in the city of Bath. The city of Bath is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Several of the UK’s university rankings rate the University of Bath as a top university and it is known as a university putting effort into its sport science education and research. It is also ranked 7th in QS’s World University Rankings for 2023 in sports-related subjects.

Until now, several faculty members from the two departments have been conducting academic exchanges that include collaborative research and co-authoring papers.
In June 2023, the Faculty of Sport Sciences invited Associate Professor Rui Biscaia from the Department for Health, which focuses on sports science within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, to Waseda University as a visiting scholar. He conducted an intensive lecture titled “Sport Sponsorship Management” and subsequently organized a mini-workshop.
The newly signed agreement aims to turn these individual activities into an organized effort in order to comprehensively enhance collaboration in education and research within the field of sports.
The signing ceremony, which took place on September 11th, was attended by key individuals including Professor Julian Chaudhuri, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education at the University of Bath, Professor Deborah Wilson, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Rui Biscaia (Associate Professor) and Dr. Andrew Manley, Senior Lecturer from the Department for Health.

After the signing ceremony, the group toured classrooms and sports facilities under the guidance of Ms. Sarah Turner, a staff member from the University of Bath.
