On Thursday, January 12, 2023, members of Waseda University’s Faculty of Sport Sciences visited the Institute of Physical Education, Health and Leisure Research at National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan) to sign a new agreement.
At the signing ceremony, Professor Tsang-Hai Huang, Director of the Institute of Physical Education, Health and Leisure, National Cheng Kung University, and Professor Hirotaka Matsuoka, Senior Dean of the Faculty of Sport Sciences, Waseda University, signed the agreement respectively.

National Cheng Kung University and Waseda University had originally entered an agreement in the past, and have had exchange students between the two universities. This time, the two signed a departmental agreement to strengthen education and research collaborations in the fields of sport sciences, especially in disseminating the results of such activities to the international community.
The Institute of Physical Education, Health, and Leisure Management, with which the agreement was concluded, offers undergraduate and master’s programs in English in the following three areas of study related to sports:
- Health Management (Sport Psychology & Exercise Physiology)
- Sport Technology Industry (Sport Biomechanics)
- Sport & Leisure Management
National Cheng Kung University encourages both graduate students and faculty to actively contribute to international journals. As a result of these efforts, the university’s H-index (a value used to determine a university’s level of journal publications and citations) remains high. In addition, Professor Chia Liang Tsai has been ranked in the field of Exercise & Cognitive Neuroscience on a comprehensive list identifying the top 2% of scientists in the world.

It is expected that this agreement will lead to academic collaboration in various fields of sport sciences and stimulate collaboration in education and research guidance.
