Waseda University’s The Health Promotion: The Joy of Sports and Exercise unit welcomed Dr. Lee, Jason Kai Wei from the National University of Singapore as a visiting faculty member. Dr. Lee will be giving an intensive lecture on “Optimising Human Potential in a Warming World” (15 sessions) from May 20 to June 3, followed by a mini-workshop on June 8 (Wednesday) in a hybrid face-to-face and Zoom format.
Dr. Lee held a two-day lecture online last February on the themes of “heat impact on outdoor physical activities and active transport” and “heat management for human performance and safety.” You can find out more about the lecture here.
Being able to welcome Dr. Lee as a visiting faculty member and offer face-to-face classes is a valuable educational opportunity for our students.
Dr. Lee, who is also a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) and World Meteorological Organization (WMO) expert group on Climate Change on Workers’ Health and Productivity, will weave these global perspectives into his teaching.

With global warming, the impact of heat on health and performance will become a growing concern. Through a mix of lectures, tutorials and practicums, this course will address key physiological principles and considerations across various segments of the population who may be compromised under heat stress. The course will equip the MSc and PhD students with the necessary knowledge and skills to design heat mitigation programmes and implement strategies to augment human health, safety and performance.
