Waseda University’s Health Promotion: The Joy of Sports and Exercise Unit (Top Global University) invited Dr. Simon Chadwick of emlyon Business School, France for an online seminar entitled “Sport Management – From utilitarianism and neoclassical sport management to a new geopolitical economy of sport”.
Before the lecture, Associate Professor Donna Wong (Faculty of Sport Sciences, Waseda University) introduced Dr. Chadwick’s career and research.
The lecture saw participants of not only students and faculty of Waseda University, but also by a large number of participants abroad, especially from Europe, totaling approximately 100 participants.
In his lecture, Dr Chadwick spoke for nearly one and a half hours about the economic and political uses of sport and the geopoliticisation of sport, using specific examples from his research.
During the Q&A session that followed, each question was answered in detail, and the two-hour lecture provided a great deal of insight into global trends in the sports business.
