Waseda University’s Health Promotion: The Joy of Sports and Exercise Unit (Top Global University) , held an online lecture by Dr. Thackray from Loughborough University, UK, on Friday, March 11.
Before the lecture, Prof. Masashi Miyashita (Faculty of Sport Sciences, Waseda University) introduced Dr. Thackray’s background and research.
The lecture, titled “Exercise and Appetite Control: exploring homeostatic and hedonic mechanisms”, focused on the regulation of appetite and energy intake in the brain from the perspective of both homeostatic and reward system regulation mechanisms, as well as the role of body shape. He gave an approximately one-hour lecture on research findings, including differences in response to hormones and energy intake, and acute and chronic exercise and appetite.
The lecture was followed by a 30-minute question and answer period, where Dr. Thackray was able to offer in-depth explanation to questions posed by the approximately 60 participants, including national and international researchers, to deepen their knowledge.
