The Health Promotion: The Joy of Sports and Exercise unit invited Associate Professor Jason Kai Wei Lee of the National University of Singapore for a two-day online lecture on February 8 and 9, 2022.
A total of about 80 people participated in the two-day event, and each lecture was followed by a question and answer session.
To start the lecture series off, Professor Masashi Miyashita (Faculty of Sport Sciences, Waseda University) introduced Dr. Lee, and his career and research.

Heat impact on outdoor physical activities and active transport
The lecture began with an explanation of the effects of physical exercise on health, followed by a 50-minute lecture on the effects of global warming and temperature fluctuations on heat stroke and the dangers of exercising in hot and humid conditions. The lecture was followed by a question and answer session, where the participating researchers and students actively asked questions and expressed their opinions, making it a very meaningful experience for all participants.

Heat management for human performance and safety
The second day started off in a relaxed atmosphere, with Dr. Lee chatting with participants who had asked questions on the first day. This time, the lecture’s focus was on solutions: day two ended with a 75-minute lecture on the results of Dr. Lee’s research on heat adaptation in the laboratory and field, followed by a detailed explanation that exceeded the scheduled time for questions from the participants.
