Prof. Giovanni Zangari, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Virginia, joined Waseda as a Joint-Appointment (JA) professor during the period from May 15 through July 20, 2020. He was originally scheduled to come to Tokyo to give face-to-face lectures and research guidance to Waseda students; however, these activities were held online due to COVID-19. It was the first time for the Energy and Nanomaterials unit to work with a JA professor solely through online means.
Prof. Zangari, whose research interests lie primarily in the field of electrochemical processes for materials synthesis, has published his research in international scientific journals such as the Journal of the Electrochemical Society. He plays a leading role in academia serving as the Chair of the Division “Electrochemical materials science”, International Society of Electrochemistry.
By providing lectures and research guidance in English on areas such as Interface Electrochemistry and Surface Chemistry of Nanostructured Materials, Prof. Zangari has contributed to enhancing the quality of education at Waseda.
