According to the 2019 Best Global Universities Rankings by U.S. News & World Report released in autumn 2018, Waseda University ranked third nationally in the field of mathematics.
Some of the major world university rankings in the world are Times Higher Education World University Rankings (United Kingdom), Academic Ranking of World Universities (China), and QS World University Rankings. U.S. News & World Report has published university rankings for 30 years since 1983, mainly for universities in the United States. U.S. News & World Report started to publish its global university rankings in 2014.
The purpose of the Best Global Universities Rankings is to provide how universities compare globally, and the rankings measure research performance and reputation without making a distinction between undergraduate and graduate programs. Based on various data, the 1,250 top ranked schools were identified and were given scores as well as numerical rankings for the indicators determined by U.S. News, the highest three being global research reputation, regional research reputation, and Number of publications that are among the 10 percent most cited. In addition to three other fields, Waseda University ranked 1st nationally for the analysis, applied mathematics, and related fields category in for the total number of new projects adopted by the Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Program (also known as the KAKENHI Program) in the 2018 academic year.
The Multiscale Analysis, Modelling and Simulation Unit will aim for education and research in which mathematics-related fields act as a driving force of civilization.
