Unit for Energy and Nanomaterials played a key role to tighten the tie with Uppsala University.
Graduate School of Advanced Science and
Engineering concluded the agreement of the Joint Supervision Program with Uppsala University Faculty
of Science and Technology in last November. This is the fourth following the program with Monash
University, Australia, University of Bonn, German, Korea University, South Korea.
In AY2016, Waseda University appointed Uppsala University Professor as a Joint Appointment faculty
(JA Professor). It enabled him to engage course teaching and research guidance to our PhD students.
These opportunities facilitated educational and research collaboration between two universities.
Uppsala professor accepted our PhD student at his laboratory and participated in the student’s
defense as one of examiners.
These relationshop brougt more solid collaboration framework as start of the Joint Supervision
Program. We plan to dispatch a student as the first candidate through this framework.

*The Joint Supervision Program is intended for doctoral students to take supervision from two
supervisors at both the home and host institutions. The students in the Program will spend some time
at their host university for face-to-face research guidance, and supervision is carried out under
mutual cooperation and consultation between the two supervisors. In addition, because this Program
was designed with the purpose of implementing a joint doctoral degree program in the future, the
students are required to take courses with their supervisor at the host university. Upon program
completion, a certificate will be granted under the name of both university presidents (Dean).
