New online course “Super-Aged Japan: Exploring Activity, Health, and Place” is now available on edX

The online course “Super-Aged Japan: Exploring Activity, Health, and Place”, produced by Associate Professor Michael Annear of the Faculty of Sport Sciences, has been launched on edX, an online platform that delivers free educational content worldwide.

The course consists of four weeks of content and offers a holistic study of aging from the fields of health science, sports science, social work, and gerontology. In addition, it also includes interviews with six guest speakers who reflect cultural, social, and educational experiences.

The course will draw on insights from expert Japanese and international contributors in the areas of psychology, health sciences, sleep, epidemiology, rehabilitation and emergency medicine to shed light on how Japan is confronting the challenges of a super-aged society with specific case studies from Japan and other countries.

At the beginning of the course, Professor Hirotaka Matsuoka, Dean of the Faculty of Sport Sciences, explains the philosophy of the Faculty and its areas of expertise, in addition to introducing the Faculty’s English-based Graduate Degree Programs.

This course is available after registering for an edX account. Access to the lecture videos and discussion forums is free, however access to quizzes and the issuing of certificates of completion requires a fee.
