Academic Leader Symposium: “Considering Political Methodology Education”

The Center for Positive/Empirical Analysis of Political Economy has been active for 10 years since 2014, with the aim of “proposing the construction of political and economic institutions and the formation of policies that can meet the various needs of human society based on scientific evidence, and aiming to develop human resources who can take on the challenges of unresolved issues in global society.”

We are pleased to host a symposium titled “Considering Political Methodology Education” with Professor Teppei Yamamoto from MIT. In recent years, the importance of data science has been attracting attention due to the collection of various data from society and the development of information technology, including the increasing computing power of PCs. Universities are now requested to train data scientists. In this symposium, Professor Yamamoto, who is in charge of political methodology education in the Department of Political Science at MIT, will talk about the social significance of statistics and data science education in the field of political science. This will be followed by a panel discussion by three leading researchers in political methodology, including Professor Fukumoto (Gakushuin University) and Assistant Professor Shiraito (University of Michigan), on what kind of political methodology education and training should be offered in Japan. The discussion will conclude with audience participation. This symposium is designed primarily for undergraduate and graduate students and the general public. The language is Japanese.
