Event Report: The 17th Applied Econometrics Conference

The Applied Econometrics Conference is a long-running workshop-style conference held in collaboration between Hitotsubashi University, the University of Tokyo and Osaka University. The conference, usually held in October or November each year, brings together graduate students and young researchers working in the field of microeconometrics, and aims to encourage research using microeconometric methods by bringing together a relatively small group of postgraduate students and researchers to closely exchange ideas and opinions.

This year’s conference was held on November 5 in a hybrid format, both online and at the Research Innovation Centre’s Komatsu Hall (Building 121, Waseda Campus). This conference is jointly sponsored by Waseda’s Center for Positive/Empirical Analysis of Political Economy (Top Global University Project) and Graduate School of Economics, as well as the Tokyo Center for Economic Research (TCER).

A total of 100 participants were registered in advance, and 47 in-person and 53 online participants attended.

An application period was open from June 16 to September 1 for postgraduate students, post-doctoral researchers and other researchers with fixed-term contracts, who conduct research in fields such as labor economics, industrial organization, development economics, economics of education, health economics, public economics, consumption and investment, experimental economics, and any other field where empirical analysis using micro-econometric methods is being carried out.
