Waseda University’s Senior Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost, Shuji Hashimoto was given the opportunity to speak about the “Waseda Goes Global” Plan at a meeting of European Union (EU) Members State officials at the Delegation of the European Union to Japan on April 27, 2016.
He gave a 40-minute presentation in English about Waseda’s background, the plan’s outline, and motivation to strengthen relations with European countries in front of 20 to 30 officials from various European embassies.
In the Waseda Goes Global Plan, which was selected for the highly competitive Top Global University (TGU) Project by the Ministry of Education Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the university aspires to build a worldwide academic network that is open, dynamic, and diverse to invite talented students and researchers without being deterred by national borders or structural differences.
Hashimoto explained Waseda’s contribution to educational research and how some of Waseda’s priority research areas have collaborating institutions in Europe.
Waseda has just recently opened its Brussels Office and prides itself in being the most international university in Japan, and Hashimoto expressed the university’s eagerness to create even tighter connections with Europe, through EU initiatives such as Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020.
